Canstruction® shows how each of us CAN make a difference in solving hunger

The 7th Annual Jacksonville Canstruction®, which is a Foundation for the Society of Design Administration, is a friendly competition that will showcase the best and brightest from the design and architecture communities as the teams create one-of-a-kind structures out of nonperishable food items, mainly canned goods.

The structures will be erected and on display for the public's viewing on Feb. 29 and will remain up through March 13 at the Main Jacksonville Public Library. At the conclusion of the event, all of the food items will be donated to the Lutheran Social Services Second Harvest Food Bank. The public is invited to cast its votes for the best "canstruction", using ballots provided at the library. Winners will be recognized during the Canstruction Gala held the evening of March 6 in the library.

Last year, over 9,200 pounds of food was provided from the event, which equates to over 6,100 meals for the Food Bank to provide to needy families. Since its inception six years ago, Canstruction® in Jacksonville has resulted in over 71,000 pounds of food donated to those in need in our area. From displaying creative works of art to providing food for a hungry family, Canstruction® is truly a competition in which we all “can” win.
