This is a group for beginner seamstress and sewing enthusiasts striving to make a make better looking garments. We will be learning new skills, networking with others who share your love of home sewing with others who share your interest. We will discuss basic constructions, design, pattern drafting of any kind, fitting techniques, techniques, embellishments, learning your style, craft items, quilting and anything that will improve our skills.

150 students traveing with EF-Educational Homestay Programs fom France, Spain, Russia and Scandinavia are coming to Jacksonville and the surrounding areas July 2 through July 29th.   We are looking for Volunteer Host Families who are willing to share their hearts and homes with a young person from another country.  The students have studied English in school and are anxious to spend their summer learning first hand about American family life, culture and community.  This educational experience is also an incredible cultural opportunity for your family!The students come fully insured and bring their own extra spending money.  We ask that our host families provide a bed for the student (they do not need to have their own room), meals, transportation to and from a designated EF bus stop in your area as well as a welcoming family environment.

The 18th Annual Jacksonville FOODFIGHT will be held at the Crown Royal Touchdown Club from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. More than 45 local restaurants, beverage distributors and caterers will engage in a friendly competition showcasing their signature dishes.  In addition to the fabulous food and spirits, there will be live entertainment and a silent auction and raffle - both featuring an array of exciting items. Over 1,000 guests are expected to come out to enjoy the samplings provided by the best in the industry.

The young ladies of Empowerment Resources, Inc., will Capture the Moments to Reveal the Possibilities at the non-profit’s Fourth Annual Journey Into Womanhood Scholarship Banquet.  Forty young ladies, ages 9-17 are embracing and capturing the moments of their youth, as they take all of the skills they’ve learned through the Journey Into Womanhood program, to reveal the possibilities for a bright future. A scholarship will be awarded to a Jacksonville high school senior.  The banquet will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 1 p.m., at the Jacksonville Marriott, 4670 Salisbury Road. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $40 per person, with proceeds benefiting Journey Into Womanhood’s (JIW) programs and scholarship fund.

150 students traveing with EF-Educational Homestay Programs fom France, Spain, Russia and Scandinavia are coming to Jacksonville and the surrounding areas July 2 through July 29th.   We are looking for Volunteer Host Families who are willing to share their hearts and homes with a young person from another country.  The students have studied English in school and are anxious to spend their summer learning first hand about American family life, culture and community.  This educational experience is also an incredible cultural opportunity for your family!The students come fully insured and bring their own extra spending money.  We ask that our host families provide a bed for the student (they do not need to have their own room), meals, transportation to and from a designated EF bus stop in your area as well as a welcoming family environment.

 This event is to raise funds to save as many big cats as possible.  State Officials are closing down several facilities with no place for the animals to go.  It cost about $10,000.00 to save just a couple of these beautiful animals.

Paul Davis Restoration of North Florida to participate in City of Jacksonville’s Adopt-A-Road program beginning on June 21 

Jacksonville, FL - Marguerite and Mike Mumford, Paul Davis Restoration of North Florida owners, have recently announced their company’s participation in the City of Jacksonville’s Adopt-A-Road program. According to Marguerite Mumford, the Adopt-A-Road Program encourages businesses, industry, civic, youth and nonprofit organizations to adopt an area of roadway in their communities.

As part of a six-month, 48-state tour, the Fight Back Express bus will kickoff its Florida tour with  stops in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, carrying the message, “If one person can battle cancer, a nation can rise up and defeat it.”  The tour, sponsored by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), is highlighting the crucial role elected officials play in making cancer a national priority. 

Cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, their families and all supporters will hold a rally to welcome the ACS CAN Fight Back Express, a mobile action center where visitors can share their story with their elected officials through the electronic “Picture A Cure” program and sign the bus as a show of support for making cancer a top national priority.  We invite everyone to join in the fight against cancer with your voice.
