Once Upon a Mattress takes place in a fictional medieval kingdom ruled over by the devious Queen Aggravain and the mute King Sextimus the Silent. The populace of the castle is complaining about an unjust law stating that no one may wed until Prince Dauntless the Drab marries a princess. Yet, every petitioning princess is sent away. When the leading knight of the realm, Sir Harry, discovers that his Lady Larken is pregnant, he embarks on a quest to find the last princess and returns with Princess Winnifred the Woebegone (Fred), a brash, unrefined princess from the marshlands. The Queen vows to find a way to stop Fred from charming Dauntless by devising a secret test. As the test day approaches will Fred pass? Will Harry and Larken's marriage survive? Come find out at Episcopal High School's Middle School Theatre's production of Once Upon a Mattress.
